Former Newton Resident Dies
Mrs. Marietta Schermerhorn, 77, died this morning at her home near Colfax, following a prolonged period of illness. Immediate cause of death was a stroke which she suffered three weeks ago.
Funeral services will be held at two o’clock Monday afternoon from the Morgan funeral home, with Dr. W. H. Blancke in charge. Interment will be in the Newton Union cemetery.
Mrs. Schermerhorn was born in Charles City, Ia, Oct. 12, 1860, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Seth Velie. She was united in marriage April 2, 1914, to W. W. Schermerhorn, in Fort Dodge. The couple made their home in Newton for 17 years, moving to Colfax three years ago.
Mrs. Schermerhorn is survived by her husband, W. W. Schermerhorn; a son, Leo Schermerhorn, of Colfax; and two daughters, Veve Brumme, of Omaha, Neb., and Edith Turner of Pierce, Neb. She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters.
Mrs. Schermerhorn was an active member of the Lutheran church.
