Colfax Resident Dies Sunday
W. W. Schermerhorn, 75, Dies at His home Following Two Weeks Illness.
William Warren Schermerhorn, 75, died at 7:15 p.m. Sunday evening at his home south of Colfax, following an illness of two weeks.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Morgan Funeral home with Rev. W. H. Blancke, in charge. Interment will be made in the Newton Union cemetery.
Mr. Schermerhorn was born May 4, 1863 in Charles City, the son of William and Harriett Lotridge Schermerhorn.
On Aug. 28, 1890, he was united in marriage to Josephine Herbert, and to this union two children were born, Leo, who survives, and Wayne, who died about three years ago. Mrs. Schermerhorn died March 12, 1912.
On April 2, 1914, he married Marietta Leonard. She died March 3, 1938.
Mr. Schermerhorn had lived in Newton and vicinity for 20 years, moving to Colfax three years ago. For several years he was in the meat market business with his son, Leo, in Newton.
He is survived by his son, two step children, Mrs. Edith Turner of Pierce, Neb., and Mrs. Veve Brumme, of Omaha, Neb. Also three grandchildren and 6 step grandchildren.
(Note: other sources say Josephine’s surname was Herber, Herber is correct)
