Lynnville, Mar. 2 – Funeral services for Lena Beason, age 13, who died Tuesday morning at the Mahaska hospital in Oskaloosa, were held at the Friends church at 1 o’clock Thursday. The service was in charge of Rev. L. Willard Reynolds. Burial was in the West Liberty cemetery east of Searsboro.
A quartet composed of Rev. Waldo Reece, Mrs. Harvey Gause, Mildred Reece, and Harlan Meredith, sang “Whom Having Not Seen, I Love” and “Safe in the Arms of Jesus.” A duet, “Tell Me the Story of Jesus” was sung by Mrs. Harvey Gause and Rev. L. Willard Reynolds.
Pallbearers were Alice Jones, Margaret Renaud, Eula Gause, Nadine Ratliff, Kathryn Wagaman, and LeNora Macy. Honorary pall bearers included members from her Sunday school class, Anna Matthews, Frances Shaffer, Dorothy Renaud, Ardena Quire, Donna Lewis, Neva Ratcliffe, Ellen Macy and Velma McMain.
Lena Waunita Beason, daughter of Samuel J. and Edna Beason was born July 29, 1918 and died Feb. 24 at the age of 12 years, after only a few hours illness with acute appendicitis.
Besides her parents she leaves surviving, an older brother, Leland, and a younger brother, Gerald. She took an active part in the children’s activities in the church, school and community and had reached the seventh grade in school. She had recently enrolled in the girls 4-H club and held an office in the Junior Christian Endeavor.
