Norman Sager Dies En Route To Skiff Hospital
Norman Thomas Sager, 29, a lifetime Colfax resident, died early Sunday as he was being transported by ambulance to Skiff Memorial Hospital in Newton, according to Jasper County Sheriff Darrell Hurley.
Dr. D. R. Onnen, the county medical examiner, ruled that the death was the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Hurley said.
Sager was found about 5 a.m. Sunday by his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Kermit Wickett, in a rooming house at 413 E. Washington Street in Colfax. It is believed that the wound, from a 22 caliber revolver, was inflicted about 4:30.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Walters Funeral Home in Colfax.
The Rev. Anthony Pettrone, minister of the Colfax Christian Church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Ashton Chapel Cemetery at Mingo.
Military rites will be conducted by Jones-Willis American Legion Post at Colfax.
Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Simon Thomas Sager of Colfax; a brother, James Harvey Sager of Mingo; and four sisters, Mrs. James (Rose) Good of Colfax, Mrs. Kermit (Hazel) Wickett of Colfax, Mrs. Robert (Violet) Gulling of Colfax and Mrs. Larry (Pansy) Dobson of Colfax.
He was born July 22, 1936 at Mingo.
He served for four years in the Air Force and was a member of the Colfax American Legion post.
