James Wolcott, 80, Passed away Monday
James Wolcott, 80, a longtime resident of Monroe, died Monday morning at his home.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 1, at the Monroe Methodist church.
Rev. Orin Young, pastor of the church, conducted the services. Mrs. June Wilson was organist.
Pallbearers were Dick Vanderwerf, Marvin Garland, D. B. Carter, Gysbert Van Houwelinger, Harold Bowie and Ted Reetz. Burial was in Monroe cemetery.
Mr. Wolcott, son of Wallace T. and Mary Ellen (Kisor) Wolcott, was born in Kansas February 24, 1881.
He came with his parents from Kansas when but a child, settling at New Sharon, where he grew to manhood. After spending four years at Warsaw, Ill., and two years at Lamoni, he moved to Monroe in 1901. He formed a partnership with his father in the meat market business which they conducted for many years.
The last 35 years he has devoted his time to stock buying, remaining active until two years ago when his health failed.
He was married to Mary Lackey in 1903.
Mr. Wolcott is survived by his wife; and two daughters, Mrs. Horace (Louise) Cash and Mrs. C. J. (Miriam) Huigen, both of Monroe; two grandsons, Donald Cash and Douglas Huigen; two great grandchildren, Theresa and Mary Katherine Huigen; and one sister, Mrs. Edith Murray.
He was a member of the Monroe Methodist church.
