Former Resident Dies In Newton
Mrs. Mary Ellen Moore Wilson, 73, died at 12:10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 11th at the Skiff hospital where she had been hospitalized for more than a month.
Mrs. Wilson received her education in the Colfax Schools. She was a member of the Christian Church; also the Royal Neighbors, Woman’s Relief Corps and Rebekahs. She was a resident of Jasper Co. throughout her life with the exception of 17 years spent in Minnesota.
She was the daughter of Joseph and Emma Berry Stock and was born Feb. 13, 1887 on a farm near Baxter. She was married to Alva Moore, who preceded her in death. In December 1945, she was married to F. Earl Wilson who died in 1950.
Surviving her are three sons, Galen Moore of Ottumwa, Riley W. Moore and Duane Moore, both of Newton; four daughters, Mrs. Don (Doris) Herwehe of La Porte, Ind., Mrs. Oliver (Gladys) Griggs of Newton, Mrs. James (Frances) Sampson of Kellogg and Mrs. John (Rozella) Bale, Jr., of Colfax; a brother, Glen Stock of Colfax; a half-sister, Mrs. Gladys Clement of Des Moines; 14 grandchildren; five great grandchildren and two step-daughters, Mrs. Ruby Peterson of Minneapolis, Minn., and Miss Bonnie Wilson of Oregon.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Morgan-Loehr Funeral home in Newton.
Rev. Robert Barnett of the First Baptist church conducted the service.
Burial was in the Sugar Grove Cemetery.
