Funeral Services For Mrs. Maggie Waddle Held Last Tuesday
Funeral services for Mrs. Maggie Waddle, who died at her home in Monroe, Sunday, following a short illness of flu and pneumonia, were held at the Methodist church Tuesday at 2 o’clock, the Rev. O. S. Hesseltine, pastor of the Methodist church, assisted by the Rev. J. M. Carlson, of the Baptist church, conducted the services.
The pallbearers, who were all grandsons of the deceased, were David and Ray Nimmo, Doyle, Edwin and Ralph Waddle and Chester Marshall.
Music was furnished by a male quartette composed of Eric Le Grand, Guy Wilson, Hubert Burchinal and Rev. Carlson, with Mrs. Carl Ammer, accompanist.
The following obituary was read by the pastor.
Maggie Waddle, daughter of Simon and Jane Maines, was born in Westmoreland county, Pennsylvania, May 14, 1855, and died at her home in Monroe, Iowa, February 22, 1932, aged 76 years, 9 months and 21 days.
In 1869 she accompanied her parents to Iowa, and located on a farm two miles south of Monroe. The remainder of her life was spent in this vicinity.
On August 25, 1882, she was united in marriage to James C. Waddle.
She was the mother of six children, Simon, of Yale, Okla., Bessie Nimmo, of Monroe, Rebecca Marshall, of Monroe, Will, of Grimes, Iowa, John and George, of Monroe, and a step-son, A. J. Waddle, of Newton.
The husband, Simon and Rebecca, preceded her in death.
Besides the children she leaves to mourn her passing one sister, Mrs. Susan Jarnagin, thirty-five grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and a great number of other relatives and a wide circle of friends.
In her girlhood she was a member of the Baptist church. After her marriage she and her husband joined the Methodist church at Fairmount, of which she was a member until she moved to Monroe, where she joined the Monroe Methodist church, and was a faithful member until her death, attending services as long as her health would permit.
