Alva E. Wade, 60, Newton Contractor Dies at Iowa City
Alva E. Wade, 60, road contractor and resident of Newton for the past 24 years, died Monday at the University hospitals at Iowa City where he had been a patient for the past month.
Funeral services tentatively are arranged for 2 p.m. Friday at the Toland funeral home. The Rev. W. W. Johnson, pastor of the United Presbyterian church, will officiate at the services and burial will be in Newton Union cemetery.
Mr. Wade is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Myron (Beulah) Spencer of Newton, Mrs. Herb (Dorothy) Potter of Reasnor and Mrs. Loy (Lela) Anderson of Kellogg; four sons, Donald Wade of Des Moines, Harold of Wilmington, Ohio, Grover, in the Army in Korea, and LeRoy of West Virginia; five sisters; a brother and 15 grandchildren.
He was born July 12, 1893 in Graysville, Mo., moving to Newton in 1929. In addition to his contracting work, Mr. Wade was employed at the Maytag Co., at one time.
He was a member of the United Brethren church.
