Life Story Of Gertrude Vonk
Mrs. Case (Gertrude) Vonk Sr., 79, of Reasnor, a longtime resident of Jasper County, died Thursday in her home in Reasnor.
Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 20, in the Monroe Baptist Church.
The Rev. Wayne K. Anderson, minister of the church, conducted the services. Burial was in Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City.
Survivors are her husband, Case; five children, Mrs. Orville (Mary) Marshall of Monroe; Jay Vander Schel of Newton, Mrs. Joe (Cornelia) Stepka of San Diego, Calif., Mrs. Bob (Effie) Robison of Monroe and Mrs. Joe (Margaret) Sille of Newton; 10 step-children, Tunis Vonk of Oskaloosa, Richard Vonk of Newton, Mrs. Jennie Hoksbergen of Sully, Mrs. Fred (Janet) Van Dyk of Oskaloosa, Mrs. John (Rena) Rozenboom of Oskaloosa, Mrs. Neal (Gertrude) Willemsen of Otley, Mrs. Peter (Minnie) Van Maanen of Sully, Mrs. Cornie (Corrie) Terpstra of Sully, Mrs. Paul (Nellie) Van Maren of Kellogg and Mrs. Anthony (Evalina) Vandewege of Denver, Colo.
Also surviving are 52 grandchildren; a number of great grandchildren; two brothers, Ralph Huisman of Pella and Marion Huisman of Marshalltown; and two sisters, Mrs. Pete (Nell) Kelderman of Lansing, Ill., and Mrs. Ted (Margaret) Trent of San Diego, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Andrew Vander Schel; two daughters; a step-son; a grandson; two great grandsons; three brothers and two sisters.
The daughter of Cornelius and Marie Huisman, she was born April 15, 1888, in the Netherlands and came to the United States in 1909.
She was married to Andrew Vander Schel in 1910 and they resided in the Prairie City community until Mr. Vander Schel died in 1918.
She was married to Case Vonk Sr. May 29, 1928, and they had resided in the Reasnor community since that time.
