While the death of Mrs. Dan McGill was not unexpected, she had been failing in health for some time, and had been as well as usual until Sunday evening at 9:45 when she became suddenly ill, yet when the news came Tuesday morning she had passed away, it came as a shock to her family and friends.
Margaret Ann Harrigan was born in County Antrim, Ireland on August 5th, 1861; was married to Daniel McGill on Sept. 14, 1890. They crossed the ocean on their wedding trip to this vicinity where they remained. To this union was born eight children, two of whom preceded her to the world beyond. The remaining six children were present when she passed away at her temporary home June 23, 1925 at 1:30, after lingering illness of two years, when she was a patient sufferer. Everything was done to give relief; in hospitals and medical aid by her kind family and her faithful daughter, Mrs. Reed Pease, whom she confided and depended on, who never once was too busy to give up her duties and pleasures to comply with her mother’s wishes and comfort.
She leaves to mourn their loss, her husband, Daniel McGill, three sons, John, Dan, James and Little Fern, all at home and three married daughters, Mrs. Reed Pease of Colfax, Ia., Mrs. Margaret Heberer, Mingo, Ia., and Mrs. James Rooney of Farrar, Ia., two grandchildren, Margaret Ellen Rooney and William Doyle Heberer, one brother, Dan Harrigan, of Davenport; 1 niece, M. J. Harrigan of Chicago.
Funeral services were held Thursday at Sacred Heart church, Valeria, where Father Hennesy conducted Mass and Father Larkin of Des Moines gave his sermon. Interment was made in the Holy Cross cemetery.
Card of Thanks: We wish to express our heartfelt thanks to the friends and neighbors for their many acts of kindness during the illness and death of our loved one; also we wish to thank the telephone operators for their assistance; also for the beautiful floral offerings. Dan McGill and Family
