Andrew Maddison Drowning Victim
Services for Andrew Maddison, 65, a resident of the Colfax area since 1956, were held Tuesday, August 4th at 2 p.m. in Walters Funeral Home at Colfax.
Mr. Maddison was drowned Saturday evening, August 1, 1970 in the Iowa River west of Tama. He was one of three persons fishing in a boat above the dam on the Tama Indian Settlement. The boat capsized, and the other two occupants were able to swim to the shore. The accident occurred between 8:15 and 9 p.m. and the body of Mr. Maddison was recovered within 45 minutes afterward.
He was a retired employee of the Pulley Grain Elevator at Mingo and the Colfax Elevator.
The son of William and Eliza Turner Maddison, he was born August 22, 1904, at Ottumwa.
He was married to Edith Anderson, April 30, 1927, at Albia.
Mr. Maddison was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.
Surviving are his widow, Edith; a son, Richard of Colfax; four daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Ruth) Birkenholtz of Colfax, Mrs. Mae (Doris) Oswalt of Colfax, Mrs. Omer (Rose Mary) Lamb of Mingo and Bonnie at home; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a brother, William of Pershing; and a sister, Mrs. Ellen Pinegar of Panama City, Fla.
The Rev. Paul A. Madden, pastor of the Newton Church of the Nazarene, officiated at the services.
Mrs. Frank B. Evans was the organist and Edward J. Gannon Jr. was the soloist.
The bearers were: Earl Bell, Jerry Beals, Malyn Lester, Robert Luther, Earl Meisel and Dennis Traer.
Mrs. Earl Bell and Mrs. Earl Meisel were in charge of the flowers.
Burial was in McKeever Cemetery north of Colfax
