John Higby Dies Early Last Night
Had Been a Patient at the Hospital Since Nov. 28; Rites to be Held Tuesday
John Higby, well known resident of Jasper county, died last evening at 6 o’clock in the Skiff memorial hospital at the age of 64 years. Mr. Higby had been a patient in the hospital since Nov. 28. Cancer of the stomach was given as the cause of his death.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Murdoch funeral home and burial will be in the Newton Union cemetery. The services will be conducted by the Rev. Willard Wylie, pastor of the United Presbyterian church of this city.
Mr. Higby was born May 18, 1864 in Germany and came to America when a small child. Since coming to Iowa he had spent most of his life in and around Jasper county.
He is survived by two sons, John F. Higby and Earnest Higby both of Newton and five grandchildren and two sisters and two brothers. His wife died seven years ago.

Higby Rites will be Held Tomorrow
Services to be Conducted at 2 o’clock in Murdoch Funeral Home
Funeral services for John Higby will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Murdoch Funeral home and burial will be in the Newton Union cemetery. The services will be conducted by the Rev. Willard Wylie, pastor of the local United Presbyterian church.
John Higby was born in Germany in 1865 and came to this country at the age of 5 years. When a young man he settled on a farm near Kellogg. In 1890, he was united in marriage to Nora Myers and to this union two sons were born, John F. and Earnest Earl.
He is survived by his two sons, John F. and Ernest Earl, both of Newton, five grandchildren, Robert Higby, Mae Elizabeth Higby, Helen Janet Higby, Derwent Higby and Maynard Harrison Higby, two sisters, Mrs. Earl Richardson and Mrs. Max Lavine of Newton and two brothers, Frank Higby of Newton and Charles Higby of Lake Crystal, Minn.
He was a member of the Woodman of the World and was also a member of the United Presbyterian church. Mr. Higby died Friday evening at 6 o’clock in the Skiff Memorial after a long illness. Mr. Higby had spent most of his life living in and around Jasper county.
