Life Story of Jacob Herwehe
Jacob Herwehe, 87, of Newton, a lifelong resident of Jasper County, died Thursday night in Skiff Memorial Hospital in newton.
Funeral services were held Monday in Morgan-Loehr Funeral Home.
The Rev. Richard Scott, minister of Christian Education of First United Methodist Church, conducted the services. Burial was in Monroe Cemetery.
Mrs. Lois Stanton, the organist, accompanied Ruth Jackson, the soloist.
Pallbearers were Arthur Ver Schuur, Gerrit Ver Schuur, Russell Morris, Roland Failor, Leo Griggs and Robert Hopkins.
Survivors are his wife, Mabel; two daughters, Mrs. Thelma Ammons of Des Moines and Mrs. Francis (Elizabeth) Gearhart of Newton; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Tool of Monroe and Mrs. Emma Oldham of Monroe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, four brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Herwehe farmed near Monroe for 30 years before working at the Maytag Company for 10 years before his retirement.
The son of Adam and Sarah Ammer Herwehe, he was born September 2, 1880, in Monroe and was educated in Jasper County schools.
He was married to Mabel Shaw November 25, 1903, in the home of the bride’s parents northeast of Newton.
