Miss Vera Hayes Dies in Iowa City
Miss Vera Hayes, a former resident of Jasper county, “died yesterday morning at 9:45 in the Oakdale sanitarium at Iowa City, after an illness of almost two years. She was 24 years old.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock at Mount Zion church, southeast of Newton, and burial will be made at Mount Zion cemetery, Rev. Russell Arms of Reasnor, will officiate.
Vera Hayes was an orphan. Her mother died when she was a baby and her father died when she was seven years of age. She was employed at the telephone office in Reasnor for five years and for a short time at Roswell’s ice cream parlor in Newton.
She is survived by her grandmother, Mrs. Andrew Hayes of Kellogg, two aunts, Mrs. Andrew Zondervan of Kellogg and Mrs. Virgil Blackledge of Des Moines, and one uncle Lee Hayes of Colorado.

Hayes Rites Held Sunday Afternoon
Funeral services for Miss Vera Hayes, who died Friday morning at the Oakdale sanitarium, were held yesterday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Mount Zion church, southeast of Newton. Rev. Russell Arms of Reasnor officiated.
Out of town attendants included Mrs. Grant Carnahan and daughter, Zola, of Paullina, Ia.
Burial was made in Mount Zion cemetery.

Rites Held for Miss Vera Hayes
Funeral services for Miss Vera Hayes, who died at the Oakdale sanitarium Friday, were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Mount Zion church in charge of Rev. R. J. Arms. Burial was made in the Mount Zion cemetery.
Vera E. Hayes, daughter of W. B. and Cora Hayes, was born Jan. 2, 1903, in Ouray, Colo. At the time of her death she was 24 years old.
When she was but 22 months old her mother died in Los Angeles, Calif. Her father, who was in failing health, brought her to Reasnor, Ia., in March 1908. In 1910 he died, leaving her to the care of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Hayes. With the exception of the time spent at Oakdale, Ia., and a few months in Newton, when she was employed at Roswell’s ice cream parlor, she lived the remainder of her life in Reasnor. She was assistant operator of the Reasnor telephone exchange for five years, and was secretary for the company for three years. She was liked by her friends because of her kindness and efficiency.
Miss Hayes was received into the membership of the Methodist Episcopal church in January 1914 under the pastorate of the Rev. C. E. Fitzsimmons. She was an active Christian being a teacher in the Reasnor Sunday school for a period of three years and took an active part in the local organization of the Epworth League.
She is survived by her grandmother, Mrs. Emma Hayes, three aunts, Mrs. M. G. Carnahan, of Primghar, Ia., Mrs. Virgil Blackledge of Des Moines, Ia., and Mrs. Andrew Zondervan of Kellogg, Ia., and one uncle, Lee B. Hayes, of Paonia, Colo., besides a number of other relatives.
