Eldon George Eatwell, prominent farmer and lifetime resident of Clear Creek Township in Jasper county, passed away at the State University hospital at Iowa City, March 15th, where he had been a patient since January 12th. He was the son of George and Margaret Longnecker Eatwell and was born on a farm northeast of Farrar, June 24, 1905. He lived his entire life on the farm where he was born.
As a child, Eldon had rheumatic fever and suffered from the effects until his death.
On April 6, 1938, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Hammer at Altoona, who survives him.
To this union, two children were born, one son and one daughter, who also survive.
Left in bereavement are his wife, Dorothy, one daughter, Mary Kay Eatwell, Iowa State Teachers college, Cedar Falls, and one son, John Eldon Eatwell, at home. Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. Lloyd Powleske of Farrar, three sisters, Mrs. Russell (Treva) Southern of Mingo, Mrs. Fay (Laura) Kirby of Nevada, Mrs. Arthur (Mary) Lewis of Pontiac, Michigan, and one brother, Orlando Eatwell of Ames. He was preceded in death by his father and one sister, Mrs. Vera Huntrod.
He was a member of the Methodist Church at Farrar. His relation to his church was one of consistent faithfulness. He did not parade his religion; he lived it. It was manifested in his spirit in terms of attitude; in his hands in terms of deeds; in his life in terms of loyalties; in his home in terms of devotion; in his business in terms of honor.
