Collins, Diadema – 1849-1923

Diadame (sic) Collins, daughter of J. C. Kartchner and Nancy Ash Kartchner, was born in Colfax, Jasper County, Iowa, September 19th, 1849 and departed this life February 5th, 1923 at the age of 73 years, 4 months and 16 days. She was united in marriage to (John) Vernon Collins in 1869. To this union were born ten children, six of whom survive her.
She leaves four sons, two daughters, fourteen grandchildren, one sister and three brothers to mourn her loss.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock from the M. E. Church, Rev. W. M. Brooks officiating. Interment was made at McKeever Cemetery.

Her parents information:
Father: John Christopher Kartchner b. Nov. 14, 1816 in Philadelphia, Montgomery Co., Pennsylvania; married Mar. 4, 1846 at Pinkingwills, Perry Co., Illinois; died June 20, 1911 of cancer; buried June 22, 1911 in McKeever Cemetery, Jasper Co., Iowa. His parents were Christopher Kartchner and Prudence Wilcox Collins (d. Nov. 23, 1872 age 84 yr, 11 mo, 18 days)
Mother: Nancy Ash b. Sept. 24, 1824 in Wilkesbery, Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania, died Oct 1, 1911, age 87 was an invalid several years, buried in McKeever Cemetery, Jasper Co., Iowa. Her parents were Hiram Ash and Susan Clingman.
Her sisters names were Susannah (Joseph Scott) died about 1912; Elizabeth Prudence Kartchner, born Oct. 31, 1854 and died about 1929; her three brothers were Christopher Columbus Kartchner born May 3, 1854 and died about 1936, Nathan Oliver Kartchner born Dec. 20, 1860 and died about Oct. 3, 1946; and John Wesley Kartchner born Apr. 16, 1863 and died about 1940.
The Kartchner place just north of Colfax was later known as the “Sally” place.
John Wesley Kartchner married Arlepha Woodbury and they had a daughter named Cynthia Marie Kartchner. She was born Feb. 2, 1901 in Jasper Co., Iowa; never married; died June 22, 1994 at Luther Park Health Care Center in Des Moines at the age of 93. Services were June 28, 1994 at West Des Moines Christian Church with burial at McKeever Cemetery in Colfax, IA. McLaren’s Funeral Home handled arrangements.
