Charlesworth Rites Sunday
Died at Home in Monroe Friday – Was One of Jasper County Pioneers
Funeral services were held Sunday from the Palo Alto United Presbyterian church for Arthur L. Charlesworth, who died Friday afternoon at 1:15 at his home in Monroe.
The pallbearers were Jake Goumaat, Will Rootseller, John Fraken, John Palmer, and Garrett Kaldenberg.
The music consisted of a mixed quartette composed of Rev. and Mrs. Crouch, Mrs. Carl Crane and Guy Wilson.
The flowers were in charge of Mrs. Homer Tharp.
Interment was made in the Palo Alto cemetery.
Arthur Leslie Charlesworth, son of Charles and Sarah Charlesworth, was born in Nightstown, Indiana, April 18, 1858, and departed this life February 19, 1932, at the age of 73 years, 10 months and 1 day.
He came to Iowa with his parents when two years old and settled on the farm where Charles Eggert now lives seven miles south of Newton. He was united in marriage to Jessie Ann McDannel, February 16, 1880, and to this union were born four children, all of whom survive. In October 1914, his wife passed away
On January 18, 1922, he was united in marriage to Clara Millgate at Newton, after which they moved to the farm three miles from Monroe where they lived until seven years ago when they moved to Monroe, where they have lived since.
He leaves to mourn his wife, Mrs. Clara Charlesworth, four children, Allen, Mrs. W. T. Snook, Mrs. Milo Earp, all of Newton, and Oscar, of Mason City, and one step-daughter, Mrs. Cella Van Gorp, of Reasnor. He also leaves two brothers and three sisters, fifteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
