Mrs. Mary Etta Carter, 93, Died Saturday
Mrs. Irwin (Mary Etta) Carter, 93 died Saturday at the Gardner Nursing Home in Colfax.
Mrs. Carter is the mother of Mrs. Velma Reese, a former resident of Colfax, and grandmother of Eben Van Dusseldorp, Jr. of this city.
The daughter of William and Marcissus Cowman, she was born September 19, 1889 at Percy, Iowa and lived most of her lifetime in Jasper County.
In 1887 she was married to Irwin Carter at Prairie City.
Surviving are four sons, Lawrence of Prairie City, Clarence and Hallie of Des Moines and Morris of Knoxville; two daughters, Mrs. Vera Morgan of Monroe and Mrs. Velma Reese of Des Moines; 17 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and four brothers, Worth Cowman of Des Moines, Ben and Frank Cowman of Pleasantville and Will Cowman of Knoxville.
Funeral services for Mrs. Carter were held Monday afternoon at the Pleasant Hill Church, south of Prairie City.
Rev. Mark Sullivan, minister of the Church, conducted the services.
Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
