Mrs. Leo (Maude) Carroll Died Sunday
Mrs. Leo (Maude L.) Carroll, 86, a resident of this city since 1902, died Sunday, November 5, 1972 at her home here following a general decline in health the past several months.
The daughter of Link and Addie Barackman Jackson, she was born August 26, 1886 at Excelsior, near Oskaloosa, Iowa. She attended Colfax High School and graduated from Business College in Des Moines.
On June 24, 1908, she was married to Leo W. Carroll in Colfax.
Mrs. Carroll was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Colfax and the W.S.C.S. of the church.
She was a member of the Pocahontas Lodge, Rebecca Circle and Pythian Sisters, serving in a high office in each. She was a Past Great Pocahontas of Iowa, a Past Noble Grand of the Rebecca Circle and the Past Most Excellent Chief of the Pythian Sisters. She was also a member of the Past Pocahontas Club of Des Moines and Newton, the Bunco Club, personal Club and Birthday Club. She served as treasurer for the Pocahontas Lodge for many years.
Survivors are her husband, Leo; a son, Ronald of Colfax; three daughters, Mrs. Charles (Leona) Barackman of Los Alamitos, Calif., Mrs. Everett (Margaret) Wilson Jr. of Colfax and Miss Ruth Jean Carroll of Newton; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Jim Long of Los Alamitos, Calif.
Preceding her in death were her parents, a daughter and a sister.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 8, 1972 at 10 a.m. in the United Methodist Church at Colfax.
The Rev. Wm. Leonard Rowse, pastor of the church, conducted the services.
Mrs. Darrold Hunter was the soloist and Miss Eleanor Howell was the organist.
The bearers were Earl DuRocher, Carl Elliott, William Evans, Marvin Ingraham, Frank Millburn and Robert Thomas.
Taking care of the flowers were Mrs. Harry Brant, Miss Margaret Buckroyd, Mrs. George Deakins and Mrs. Frank Millburn.
Graveside services were conducted by Mohea Council No. 24, Pocahontas Lodge.
Burial was in the Colfax Cemetery.
