Mrs. Margaret Byal, of Mingo, died last Sunday at her home, aged 78 years. She was the wife of William Byal, and the mother of his five children – three of whom – sons Milton, henry and William – survive with their father to mourn the loss of loving mother and wife. The obsequies were held last Tuesday, conducted by Rev. Williams, the M.E. minister, and the interment was at Union Chapel.

Obituary of Margaret Byal
Margaret Johnson was born in Stark county, Ohio, August 15, 1833. Eleven years later her parents went to Hancock county, Ohio, where on January 21, 1858, she was united by marriage with William Byal. To them were born five children – Milton, Henry, Carrie, Margaret and William, jr., of whom only the three sons survive. In 1864 Mr. and Mrs. Byal came to Iowa and located on a farm in Clear Creek township in Jasper county, eight miles north of Colfax, which was their home thereafter until five years ago, when they secured a location in Mingo and there built themselves a substantial and comfortable house where they had lived in comfort and happiness until the end came for the dear old mother on Sunday, December 12, after many months of suffering – she passed to her reward. From the first she was well aware of the inevitable result, yet she was reconciled and expressed a willingness to die. Throughout her last illness she was inclined to minimize her own sufferings while manifesting interest in and great concern for the afflictions of those about her, although none were so severe as her own. She was kindhearted and sympathetic, and the influence of her life for good was far-reaching and commendable. Her bereaved companion – now in his 79th year – and his sorrowing sons have the sympathy of the entire community in their great bereavement. Mingo, Iowa, Dec. 20, 1909.

News item: Wm. Byal, of Mingo, returning home from a trip to the county seat Tuesday, where he witnessed the laying of the new court house corner stone, made the Clipper a short call before taking the Colfax Northern for home. He informs us that his son, lately returned from California made a short visit with his parents before starting yesterday evening upon his return to Long Beach where he has been residing for 18 months past. Milt’s time in Iowa was so limited that he failed to visit his Colfax friends.
