Rites Held Tuesday For Arthur Jay Beals
Arthur Jay Beals was born near Ira, Iowa, on Feb. 9, 1890, and passed away at Skiff Memorial Hospital on Sept. 30th at the age of 82 years, 7 months and 21 days. He had been in frail health the past ten years and had been in the Rest Haven nursing home in Newton the past three months.
He was the son of Bert and Mary Baker Beals.
He is survived by his wife, Rosalie and son, Larry, at home; also one brother and six sisters, Walter Beals, Colfax; Mrs. Earl (Nell) Pink, Newton; Mrs. Raymond (Grace) Loynachan, Ira; Mrs. Vessie (Esther) Rhone, Colfax, Mrs. Dorr (Florence) Lane, Colfax; Mrs. Roy (Bessie) Brock, Newton; Mrs. Roscoe (Neva) Maggard, Colfax, and a number of nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
Mr. Beals was preceded in death by his mother, father, one sister and one brother.
He was united in marriage to Rosalie Brisel Beals on March 22, 1934 at Newton, Iowa and to this union one son, Larry was born, who resides at home.
He was a member of the Colfax Methodist Church, and the Sand Hill Grange for a number of years.
He was educated in Jasper County schools and Newton Normal College. Mr. Beals had resided in the Ira community all of his lifetime.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 3, 1972 at 2 p.m. at Toland Wallace Funeral Home in Newton.
The Rev. W. Leonard Rowse, minister of the United Methodist Church in Colfax and Rev. Robert Jones, minister of the Colfax Christian Church, conducted the services.
Joe Gannon was the soloist.
The bearers were Durlyn Lester, Russell Wallace, William Dunsbergen, Robert Riley, Earl Meisel, Ralph Birkenholtz.
Serving on the flower committee were Mrs. Durlyn Lester, Mrs. William Dunsbergen, Mrs. Ralph Birkenholtz.
Burial was in Union Chapel Cemetery near Ira.
