Well Known Jasper County Man Dies Saturday Evening – Hardening of Arteries is Cause of Death

Nimrod Parmley, a prominent and well known retired farmer, died at his home in this city Saturday evening at 7:30 o’clock, as a result of hardening of the arteries.

Mr. Parmley was born in Wayne County, Kentucky, July 13, 1847, and was married to Miss Mary Clouch, October 19, 1872. To this union five children were born, James C. Parmley, of Manhattan, Montana; Joe E. Parmley, Mrs. Hattie Mendenhall, Mrs. Belle Miller, of Newton and Corporal William B. Parmley who was killed in the battle of Chateau Thierry.

Mr. and Mrs. Parmley settled in Rock Creek Township in 1893 leaving this place in 1901 for Newton where they have made their home until the death of Mrs. Parmley, which occurred February 16, 1917. The deceased was an earnest and active worker in the Baptist church where all who know him speak highly of him. There are friends and relatives in and around Lynnville who have known the family during their residence at that place.

Those who survive besides four children are his brothers and sisters, Charles Parmley, of Grinnell, Iowa, Thomas Parmley, of Somerset, Kentucky, William Parmley of Courtland, Kansas, Emery Parmley, of Banks, Oregon, Mrs. Vessie Turner of Banks, Oregon, and Mrs. Easther Connelly of Chanute, Tennessee, and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the home at 2 o’clock. Burial was made in Newton Cemetery. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, Newton, Iowa, April 5, 1920, page 1.
