Grinnell- Margaret M. Gildersleeve, 99, of Grinnell, died of heart failure, Thursday, Jan. 28, at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. Ken Wallace and the Rev. John Epperson officiating. Burial will be at Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg.

Visitation will be held from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the funeral home where family will be present from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials to the Mayflower Home, Chester-Newburg Church or Our Silent City Cemetery Association will be accepted.

The daughter of Jacob and Emma Lightfoot Mulbrook, she was born April 25, 1899, in Kellogg.

She attended school in Kellogg School District and graduated from the Newton High School in 1919.

She married Ola H. Gildersleeve Aug. 18, 1922, in Newton.

A resident of Grinnell since 1962, she farmed in Jasper and Poweshiek Counties and worked as a homemaker. Mrs. Gildersleeve was a member of the Chester Congregational Church of rural Poweshiek County and the Sonora Grange.

Survivors include a son, Delmar of Fennimore, Wis.; two daughters, Bayoone Birkenholz of Newton and Phyllis Smith of Grinnell; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Odetha Hackney of Gifford.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five brothers and five sisters. ~ The Newton Daily News, January 29, 1999.
