Former Newton Man Succumbs in California
Fred Ailluad, brother of Louie Aillaud, of Newton, and of the late William Aillaud, died at South Pasadena, Calif., Saturday evening. He has been in failing health for the past two years following an operation.
He was born in Scott county, Iowa, and lived in Jasper county before going to California a number of years ago.
He is survived by his wife and daughter, Mrs. G. W. Barnum [sic-Varnum], who are expected to arrive with the funeral party some time Thursday.
The funeral will be Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at the Morgan Funeral home.
Interment will be in the Newton Union cemetery. ~ The Newton Daily News, June 26, 1944.

Rites Held For Former Local ManFinal rites for Fred Aillaud, former Newton man, who died at South Pasadena, Calif., were held at the Morgan Funeral home Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock with the Rev. Ross Mills, of Green Mountain, Ia., in charge of the services.
Richard Toedt sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Crossing the Bar,” accompanied by Helen Toedt.
Mrs. Frances J. Singer and Mrs. Alva Baker were in charge of the floral arrangements.
Pallbearers were Fred Tiedje, Alva Baker, Charles Bruce, Louis Wintermeier, and Ray Carrier.
Interment was in the Newton Union cemetery.
