Hattie Thompson Dies Today
Mrs. Hattie Harlan Thompson, 80, well-known former Newton and Jasper county school teacher, died at 3:15 o’clock this morning at the home of her sister, Mrs. Grant Atwood. She had spent all of her life in this vicinity except for short intervals spent during the summer in Colorado. She was educated in the Jasper county schools and the State Teachers college in Cedar Falls.
She had taught in the rural schools and the Lynnville and Newton schools before her marriage to James C. Thompson March 9, 1898. Mr. Thompson died in 1906.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Atwood and Miss Louise Harlan, both of Newton; and two brothers, H. C. Harlan of Newton and J. C. Harlan of Linn Grove, Ia.; also several nieces and nephews.
She was a member of the United Presbyterian church, the Rebekah lodge, the O.E.S., and The Newton Daily News Three-Quarter Century club.
Funeral services will be held from the Morgan Funeral home at two o’clock Saturday afternoon. Rev. Ray M. Davis will officiate. Burial will be in the Palo Alto cemetery.

Hattie Thompson Rites Here Saturday Afternoon
Funeral services for Hattie Harlan Thompson will be held from the Morgan Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Saturday. Rev. Ray M. Davis of the United Presbyterian church, will officiate.
Mrs. Thompson, a former teacher in the Newton schools, passed away at the home of her sister, Mrs. Grant Atwood, early Thursday morning from dropsy.
Mrs. F. E. McClain and Mrs. Charles Davis and Mrs. Blanche Christensen will provide the music. The songs will be “Going Home” and the “Twenty-Third Psalm.”
Mrs. Frank Wilcox and Mrs. Carl Gifford will have charge of the floral tributes.
Pallbearers will be Ira Charlesworth, Ralph Smith, Carl Gifford, Joe Lynn, George Banks, and Alfred Lynn.
Burial will be in the Palo Alto cemetery.
The Rebekah lodge service will be given. Members are asked to meet in a body at 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
