A funeral service for Bret James Rice, 26, will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton. The family will greet friends from 10-11:30 at the funeral home. Memorials in Bret’s name may be left at the funeral home.

Bret, the son of Steve and Shiela (Simmons) Rice, was born on January 13, 1990 in Pella, Iowa. He grew up in Norwalk and Reasnor. Bret graduated from Scavo High School in Des Moines. Bret had lived in Des Moines and most recently in Newton. He was employed at Rick’s Carpentry in Monroe. Bret enjoyed disc golf, go-carting, fishing, and being outdoors. He was also known to be an adrenaline junkie. Bret made friends everywhere he went and had the biggest heart. He loved spending time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews. Bret was a loving son, grandson, husband, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend.

Those left to honor Bret’s memory are his wife, Christin Rice of Des Moines; father, Steve Rice (Krista Gulling) of Carriere, Mississippi; mother, Shiela Rice of Des Moines; siblings, Shantell Rice (Curtis Masterson) of Grinnell and Derek Rice (Tara Renaud) of Blandon, Pennsylvania; nieces and nephews, Chase, Jaysee, Payton, and Daniel; paternal grandparents, Charles and Dixie Rice of Reasnor; and maternal grandfather, J.R. Simmons of Indianola.
