Tom Owens, 82, Longtime Colfax Resident, Dies
Colfax – Tom Owens, 82, a resident of Colfax since 1907, died early this morning in Skiff Memorial Hospital in Newton.
Funeral services for Mr. Owens, who had resided with his son, Edris, in Newton in recent years, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Walters Funeral Home in Colfax.
The Rev. James Sheckler, minister of the Prairie City Methodist Church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Colfax Cemetery.
Survivors, in addition to a son in Newton, are a daughter, Mrs. Walter (Janet) Kartchner of Ontario, Ore.; a son, Jack, of Long Beach, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Owens, he was born May 7, 1886 at Beacon.
He was married to Clyde Singleman in 1907 at Beacon.
Mr. Owens was a member of the Colfax Methodist Church.
He was a coal miner all his life until his retirement.
