Grace I. Baker

Grace I. Frey Baker, 87, of Careage of Newton, formerly of rural Mingo, died Wednesday morning, Aug. 14, at Careage of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Wallace-Pence Funeral HOme.

The Rev. Jerry Brown, senior pastor of the First United Methodist Church, assisted by the Rev. Don Carlson, pastor of the United Church of Ira, will conduct services. Burial will be in Union Chapel Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 a.m. Friday. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the United Church of Ira will be accepted.

Survivors are two daughters, Arlene (Mrs. Jerry) Funk of Newton and Marilyn (Mrs. Ted) Kuch of McClusky, N.D.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Burtis Frey of University Park; and a sister, Mrs. Bertha Tufts of Bondurant.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clifford, in 1984, six brothers, Clarence, Roy, Morris, Harold, Harry and Paul Frey, and a sister, Florence Frey.

Mrs. Baker was a member of the Ira United Methodist Church, Christian Women's Society, Ira Garden Club and Basket Club.

She was a homemaker and had been a school teacher for two years in Jasper County rural schools and for a year each in the Mingo and Bondurant schools.

The daughter of Allen W. and Lola Baker Frey, she was born Sept. 1, 1903 in Mingo, was graduated from Mingo Community High School and attended the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls and Des Moines University.

She was married to Clifford E. Baker Sept. 6, 1924 in Oskaloosa. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa thur 15 Aug 1991.
