COLFAX - Raymond Owens, 81, a longtime resident of Colfax, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the Des Moines General Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax.

The Rev. Eldon Nolte, pastor of the Colfax United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Colfax Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2

Survivors are a step-son David Wharff of Mitchellville; two grandchildren; and two brothers, Leonard of Newton and David of Colfax.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and five brothers.

Mr. Owens, the last remaining member of the Colfax Maroons, a state football champion team, was a member of the Colfax Presbyterian Church.

A Maytag retiree, Mr. Owens also had owned and operated Wharff and Owens Florist, and had been employed at the Monroe Co. in Colfax.

The son of James and Hannah Smith Owens, he was born July 28, 1902 in Angus.
