Santa, Rosa, Calif. – Ruth Bergman Stauffer, 95, of Santa Rosa, Calif., a native and former resident of Newton, died of multi-systems failure Monday, Dec. 25, at Life Care Center of Evergreen, Colo.

Graveside services will be held at the Newton Union Cemetery at 11 a.m. Friday.

The Rev. Jerry Brown, senior pastor of the Newton First United Methodist Church, will conduct services.

Memorials to the Jasper County Historical Society will be accepted. The family will donate to the Historical Society items belonging to Mrs. Stauffer’s mother, Bess Kelly Bergman.

Reese Funeral Home is in charge of Newton arrangements.

Survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, Jack B. and Marion of Evergreen, Colo.; a daughter, Jane S. Jones of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and a niece, Helen Ann (Mrs. Wes) Miller of Calabasas, Calif.; five grandchildren; and sever great-grandchildren.

The daughter of Adolph and Bess Kelly Bergman, she was born Dec. 31, 1899 in Newton.

She received her bachelor of arts degree from Iowa City where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta.

She was married to Howard Lee Stauffer in 1925. He preceded her in death in December 1958.

Mrs. Stauffer was a member of PEO for more than 50 years. ~ The Newton Daily News, Dec. 27, 1995.
