DAMMAN, MEYER, MACKERMAN, WRIGHT, BIRKENHOLTZ

Baxter- Mabel A. Damman, 91, of Colonial Manor in Baxter, a lifelong resident of Jasper County, died Friday afternoon, Oct. 16, at Colonial Manor of congrestive heart failure.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Visitation with family will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials to the Jasper County Senior Citizens will be accepted.

Survivors are two daughters, Patricia (Mrs. Dwight) Wright of Lincoln, Neb., and Nadine (Mrs. Everett) Birkenholtz of Newton; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Fred, Aug. 12, 1968, a son, Raymond, March 8, 1969, two brothers and two sisters.

Mrs. Damman, a member of the Jasper County Senior Citizens and Jasper County Farm Bureau, was a Sunday school teacher at the Wittemberg Congregational United Church, north of Newton.

She had taught rural schools in Jasper and Marshall Counties, and had been a cook at Newton Community High School.

The daughter of Henry “Ike” and Mary Mackerman Meyer, she was born April 20, 1901 in rural Newton and was a 1917 graduate of Newton Community High School

She was married to Fred August Damman March 10, 1921 in the Wittemberg Congregational United Church of Christ parsonage, north of Newton.

Mrs. Damman had resided for many years on a farm north of Newton prior to moving to Newton in 1985. ~ The Newton Daily News, October 17, 1992.
