Cedar rapids- Harlan J. “Jack” Harvey, 97, of Heritage Acres Care Center in Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, June 29, at Cedar Rapids.

His body has been donated to the University Hospitals in Iowa City.
There will be no services.

Burial will be at a later date in Newton.

Memorials to the Newton Congregational United Church of Christ or the Jasper County Historical Society will be accepted.

Survivors are a daughter, Ann (Mrs. Merlyn) Bruce of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, and a sister, Edwina Watkins.

Mr. Harvey was a member of the Newton Congregational United Church of Christ and a life member of the Knights of Pythias.

He had been superintendent of public schools in Denver, Dakota City, Ioaia and Melbourne, all in Iowa, and from 1935 until retiring in 1963 served as a timekeeper at the Maytag Co.

He was born April 17, 1898 in Newton, was a 1917 graduate of Newton Community High School and was a 1921 graduate of Coe College in Cedar Rapids.

He was married to Margaret Churchill in December, 1925.
