PEORIA - Funeral services for Gerrit Vander Molen, 81, a native of the Sully area and longtime resident of Peoria, were held today, Oct. 22, at the Peoria Christian reformed Church.

The Rev. Ronald Bouwkamp, pastor of the church, conducted services and burial was in Peoria Cemetery.

Memorials to the Peoria Christian School may be left at Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella.

Mr. Vander Molen died Friday, Oct. 19, at the Pella Community Nursing Home.

Survivors are his wife, Marie; two sons, Marvin J. of Lynnville and Donald of Pella; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a great-grandchild and brothers and sisters.

The son of Bendert and Gretje Stouwie Vander Molen, he was born Dec. 20, 1902 south of Sully. He attended Peoria Christian School until it was destroyed by fire when he was in the eighth grade.

He was married to Marie P. Roose Jan 31, 1929 in Peoria. they farmed northwest of Peoria for 33 years, retiring in 1962 and constructing a home in Peoria.

Mr. Vander Molen had been a resident of the New Sharon Nursing Home and more recently of the Pella Community Nursing home. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Mon 22 Oct 1984.
