Okie Weter

Okie Weter, 66, of 925 E. 7th St. N., a resident of Newton for 29 years, died Sunday morning, Oct. 21, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home. Burial will be held in the Veterans Section of Newton Union Cemetery.

Military services will be conducted by the Newton Veterans of Foreign wars Post 1655.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today, Oct 22.

Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions to the VFW or the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) will be accepted.

Survivors are his wife, Catherine; three sons, Thomas, William and Keith, all of Newton; three daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Elizabeth) Oneal of Bryan, Tex., Mrs. Doug (Kathleen) Gulling of Newton and Mrs. Mike (Loretta) Raybion of Bryan, Tex.; seven grandchildren; a brother, William Weter of Oregon; and a sister, Betty Cooper of Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Clifford, Clarence and Earl, and two sisters in Childhood, Hazel Dean and Gertie Weter.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a member of the Newton Veterans of Foreign wars Post 1655 and the Newton Post 23 of the Disabled American Veterans.

Mr. Weter, an Army veteran of World War II, had served in the Iowa National Guard.

He was a retired railroad motorman.

The son of William and Alma Roach Weter, he was born April 5, 1918 in Milan, Mo.

He was married to Catherine Gallagher Sept. 10, 1945 at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Mon 22 Oct 1984.
