Harry J. Eastman Rites Held June 13

Harry J. Eastman, 88, a resident of Charles City, died Sunday, June 9, at the Starr Home in Charles City.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 13, at the First Congregational Church. The Rev. Don Laue, minister, officiated. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery.

Harry James Eastman was born Feb. 13, 1903, at Newton, the son of James and Maude Joy Eastman. he graduated from Newton High School, received his BA degree from Cornell College and his MA degree from the University of Iowa. On June 1, 1925, he was united in marriage to Ellen Roberts at Carroll.

He was Superintendent of Schools at Colfax from 1929 to 1942, at Forest City from 1942-48, at Vinton, 1948-1956, and at Charles City, 1956-68.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church.

Survivors include a son, Robert Eastman of Council Bluffs; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a son, a brother, and a sister. ~ The Jasper County Tribune, Colfax, Iowa Thurs 20 June 1991.
