Charles Kelly Killed
Last Saturday evening, while Mr. Charles Kelly, of Des Moines, was riding horseback, his horse, which had a way of becoming unmanageable at times, took one of his tantrums and ran. Before he could be stopped, he ran into a tree in such a way that Mr. Kelly was thrown against it, striking his forehead and crushing it so that he was instantly killed. Mr. Kelly was a brother of the late James Kelly, of Newton. He lived in Newton from 1882 to 1885 in the house now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. T. Shafer, in northwest Newton, and has made his home in Des Moines ever since leaving Newton. He was about 48 years old. His brother, “Capt.” John B. Kelly, now of Wyoming, had been visiting in Newton since last Thursday; and on receipt of the news, which came on Sunday, went right to Des Moines. Mrs. James Kelly and George Kelly went up Monday. The funeral was held on Tuesday.
