Max McDaniels Dies on Friday; Services Tuesday
Max “Shorty” McDaniels, 69, of Rt. 2, Newton, a resident of Newton for nearly 50 years, died Friday evening at the Skiff Memorial Hospital following an apparent heart attack.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Wallace Funeral Home.
John Brodene of the Jehovah’s Witnesses will conduct services. Burial will be in the Palo Alto Cemetery.
Survivors are his wife, Virginia; three sons, Michael McDaniels of Des Moines, and Carl McGee and Theodore Sutton, both of Newton; four daughters, Phyllis Seals, Kay Harlow and Mrs. Robert (Carol) Boyer, all of Newton, and Mrs. LeRoy (Ann) Cloyd of Ottumwa; 25 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. McDaniels, a member of the United Auto Workers, Local 997, Retiree’s Union, had been employed at the Maytag Co. for 25 years, retiring in 1972.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. John Yargus, he was born Mar. 30, 1910 in Marshalltown.
He was married to Virginia Atwood Feb. 28, 1947 in Newton.
