Alfred Henry Abel

Alfred Henry Abel, 60, 409 W. 2nd St. S., died Tuesday morning, Oct. 23, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. A. B. Sudbrock, pastor of the Baptist Temple of Newton, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Veterans Section in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today, Oct. 24.

Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials in Mr. Abel's name may be left at the funeral home.

The family will stay at 300 Country Club Acres.

Survivors are his wife, Mary Lou; two sons, Tom and Tim, both of Newton; four daughters, Mrs. Carl (Tonda) Simmons of Baxter, Toni Connell and Teresa Pender, both of Newton, and Tammy Townsend of Riverside; and nine grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers, Ray of Jetmore, Kan., and Ralph of Minnesota; and two sisters, May Law of Jetmore, Kan., and Ruth Ross of Reasnor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Albert and Glenn, and two sisters, Ethel Gomez and Irene Hendricks.

Mr. Abel, a veteran of World war II and the Korean Conflict, was a former employee of the Maytag Co.

Mr. Abel was a resident of Newton except for the 10 years during which he was employed by the Busing Automotive and Armature Co. in Davenport.

The son of Lon and Maggie Reynolds Abel, he was born July 13, 1924 at Ness City, Kan.

He was married to Mary Lou Repp May 28, 1951 in Newton. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Wed 24 Oct 1984.
