Life Story of Stella L. Worth
Mrs. S. Boyd (Stella Louise) Worth, 85, a longtime resident of the Monroe community, died Monday, August 7, 1978, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services were held Thursday at the Monroe United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Jerry Wolcott, pastor of the church, conducted the services. Burial was in the Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Survivors are two sons, Robert Boyd Worth of Des Moines and Wayne Russell Worth of Monroe; a daughter, Mrs. Neil (Francis Ann) Prueitt of Woodward; 10 grandchildren, and a great grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1964, three brothers, Harry, Karl and Louis Schalk, and a sister, Mrs. Lloyd (Catharine) Wood.
Mrs. Worth was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church, the Order of Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, Monroe Women’s Club, TMTM Club and the Farm Bureau.
Mrs. Worth was an honorary member of the Jasper County 4-H Club, having served for many years as a 4-H leader and as a county committee member.
She taught school in Monroe, Eldora and Perry prior to her marriage June 4, 1927.
The daughter of John B. and Mary Ann Magee Schalk, she was born July 18, 1893 in Jasper County.
She attended Warren Grove rural school, Newton Community High School and Drake University in Des Moines.
