Services Held
Funeral services for Gary E. Wood, 55, of Monroe a longtime resident of Colfax, were held Thursday, December 28, 1995, at the Howard Street Christian Church in Colfax.
The Rev. Thomas Carpe, pastor of the church conducted services.
Burial was in Colfax Cemetery with military graveside rites by Fred Slayden American Legion Post of Monroe.
He died Monday, December 25, 1995 at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.
Survivors are his wife, Virginia, two sons, Gary Alan and Richard Clayton of Monroe, two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol Yvonne and Brian Norwood and Bonnie Michelle and Brent McWilliams, all of Prairie City, and five grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, Bruce “Skip” of Colfax and James David of Temecula, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Harley Raymond Jr. and Richard Alan.
Mr. Wood, who was active in Tae Kwan Do and served for many years as a Monroe Boy Scout leader, was employed in the special projects department of Monfort Packing Co. in Des Moines.
The son of Harley Raymond and Bonnie Belle Annis Wood, he was born December 1, 1940, in Newton.
He served for six years in the United States Navy.
He was married to Virginia Owens March 17, 1962 in Bellflower, California.
