Services Held
Dorothy Irene Dykstra Wood, 67, a native and longtime resident of Monroe, died Thursday, May 18, 1995 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 20, 1995 at the Monroe United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Karen Merrill, pastor of the church, conducted services.
Burial was in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Memorials to the Monroe Emergency Unit or the Monroe Library will be accepted.
Survivors are three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Danna, Dean and Amy and Dan and Laurie, all of Monroe, a daughter and son-in-law, Doreen and Gary Van Ryswyk of Mitchellville and 10 grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, Laurel and Herbert Dykstra, both of Monroe.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Donald, in 1983 and a son in infancy.
Mrs. Wood, a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church, was a rural schoolteacher and later custodian in the Pella Community School District.
The daughter of John and Mary Crane Dykstra, she was born April 23, 1928 in Monroe, was a 1946 graduate of Monroe Community High School and received a teaching certificate from Drake University in Des Moines.
She was married to Donald Wood November 30, 1947.
