Donald D. Wood Dies On Monday; Rites Thursday
Monroe – Donald Dale Wood, 54 of Monroe, a longtime Monroe contractor, died Monday at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Monroe United Methodist Church.
Dr. Otto Steele Jr., pastor of the church, and the Rev. Eldon Pals of Monroe, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Friends may call at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe after 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Survivors are his wife, Dorothy, three sons, David of Monroe and Danny and Dean at home; a daughter, Mrs. Gary (Doreen) Van Ryswyk of Prairie City; two grandchildren; his mother, Lela Brunner of Newton; a sister, Mrs. Wayne (Dixie) Russell of Newton, and a brother, Daryl of Monroe.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Mr. Wood was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church and the Fairview Masonic Lodge.
In addition to being a contractor, Mr. Wood had operated the Monroe Monument Co.
The son of Dale and Lela Welcher Wood, he was born July 10, 1928 in Reasnor.
He was married to Dorothy Dykstra Nov. 30, 1947 in Monroe.
