Services Held
Elsie Willis, age 93, formerly of Monroe, died Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at Heritage Manor in Newton. Funeral services for Mrs. Willis will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2006 at Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe with burial following at Silent City Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Heritage Manor Activity Fund or Hospice of Jasper County and online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
The daughter of Joeseph and Maude (Lutz) McCumber, Elsie was born on February 19, 1913 in Grinnell. On May 3, 1930, Elsie was united in marriage with Sam Williams at Oskaloosa. Elsie worked most her life as a homemaker and also spent some time working for Maytag. In 1976, Elsie was united in marriage with John H. Willis. Elsie spent her life living in Monroe, Newton, and Palm Springs, CA.
Those left to honor her memory are her children Betty and Bob Hartwell of Magalia, CA, Jean and Gene Scarbrough of Newton, Samuel J. and Anna Williams of Franklin, OH, Gary and Marcia Williams of Diamond Bar, CA, and a stepdaughter Carole & Wyrick Anderson of Palm Springs, CA. Those also left to honor her memory are her sister Shirley Smith of New Bern, NC, ten grandchildren, three step grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Sam Williams and John Willis, three brothers, one granddaughter, and a great grandson.
