Services for Francis C. Wheeler were held Wednesday, August 2, 2000 at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Rev. Norm Schouten, interim pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Newton officiating. Burial was in Newton Union Cemetery.
Francis Wheeler, 81 and of Newton, passed away Monday, July 31, 2000 at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
The son of Glen and Daisy McKee Wheeler, Francis was born May 11, 1919 in Newton. He graduated from Newton High School in 1937 and married Ruby I. Snook December 5, 1942, in Newton.
A lifelong resident of Newton, Mr. Wheeler was employed as a superintendent of tool making by the Maytag Company in Newton before retiring in 1982. While employed by Maytag, he helped build and test multi-motor powered Maytag Toy Racers the company used as promotion items during the 1930s and 40s. Currently he was employed by Klepinger Gallery. Mr. Wheeler was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II and was a member of the Foursquare Church and Maytag Management Club.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Nick Klepinger of Reasnor and Diane and Fred Martinson of Newton; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
