Services Held
Services for Irene M. Wheeler, were held Saturday, October 13, 2001, at Reese Chapel in Newton. Rev. David Wendell, pastor of the First United Methodist Church officiated the services. A private family burial will be held at Newton Union Cemetery at a later date. Irene passed away October 10, 2001, at Skiff Medical Center.
The daughter of Raymond and Ethel Decker Koder, she was born June 20, 1914, in Newton. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1931. She married Clifford Wheeler in Des Moines on June 14, 1933. She worked at Montgomery Ward, Winpower, and the Newton Daily News. She had lived in Reasnor until moving to Newton in 1942. Mrs. Wheeler was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Marian Wheeler of Marion and Richard Wheeler and pat Gill of Champaign, Illinois; a sister, Edith Wood of Monroe; eight grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter, and a sister.
