Services for Illa Ruth Wheatcraft were held October 11, 1992 at the Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville. Larry Wheatcraft conducted the services. Interment was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Jasper County.
Illa Ruth Wheatcraft was born on June 8, 1903 near Lynnville, Iowa and passed away on Thursday, October 8, 1992, at her son’s home in West Des Moines, Iowa. She was 89 years and 4 months old. Illa was the daughter of Arthur Briggs and Louisiana White. She was one of eight children born to this union.
Illa spent her early years around the Lynnville-Sully area where she was raised on a farm with her 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
On October 5, 1921, Illa Ruth Briggs was united in marriage to Walter James Wheatcraft. The couple made their home in the Mt. Zion and Monroe areas. They farmed together for over 50 years before moving to Knoxville in 1971. Illa had lived with her son Larry in West Des Moines after Walter passed away in February of 1989.
She was a member of the Knoxville Regular Baptist Church.
Illa was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant daughter, two infant sons, a grandchild, and her four brothers and three sisters. Those family members surviving her are, her 3 sons: Merle Wheatcraft of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Larry Wheatcraft of West Des Moines, Iowa and Dale Wheatcraft. Seven grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and many other relatives and many, many friends.
