Services Held
Services for Josephine “Jo” Wellman, were held Thursday, July 1, 1999, at the Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella. Pastor James Beranek officiated the services. Graveside services were held Friday, July 2, 1999, at Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton, Illinois.
Memorials to the Hospice of Pella have been suggested.
Josephine Daw, the daughter of John and Effie J. (Atwood) Daw, was born August 19, 1920, in Lincoln, Nebraska. She passed away on June 29, 1999, at the Pella Regional Health Center in Pella at the age of 78.
Jo’s family had lived in Nebraska and Kansas. She graduated from high school in Topeka, Kansas. On July 31, 1954, Jo was united in marriage with Dale C. Wellman. For over thirty-five years, she had resided in Pella where she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed making dolls and doll clothing.
Jo is survived by her three children and their spouses: Lowell “Jim” and Carole Russell of Palo, Iowa, Sarah and Jim Bazata of Lake Villa, Illinois, and Betty and Doug Johnston of Wellman, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Douglas Russell, Amy Russell, Dean Bazata, Mark Bazata, Julie Melcher, Jennifer Bennett, and Janel Freeman; four great grandchildren: Autumn, Rylynn, and Natalie Bennett and Joseph Melcher; and a sister, Shirley Hines of Quincy, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Wellman; her parents: John and Effie Daw; two brothers: Dick and Harry Daw, and a sister, Helen Gordon.
