Life Story of Emma Welch
Emma Roush, daughter of Henry and Amanda Roush, was born July 21, 1877, near Percy, in Marion County, and passed away at the Story County Hospital in Nevada on October 23 at the age of 92 years, three months and two days.
On February 24, 1901, she was united in marriage to Wilmer H. Welch, and to this union was born one daughter, Mrs. Dorus (Leona) Myers of Maxwell. Mr. and Mrs. Welch spent most of their married life on a farm northeast of Bondurant, moving to Elkhart in 1945, where they lived until moving to Maxwell in November 1956. Mr. Welch passed away on July 30, 1957.
Mrs. Welch was baptized in the Christian faith in Marion County and in 1946 transferred her membership to the Elkhart Christian Church. After moving to Maxwell, she transferred her membership to the Maxwell Christian Church where she remained a member until her death.
In February of 1965, Mrs. Welch moved to Van’s Home, Prairie City, where she resided until October 17, 1969, when she was admitted to Story County Hospital. The last years she spent in Van’s new Custodial Apartments.
Surviving Grandma Welch are her daughter and son-in-law, Leona and Dorus Myers; three grandsons, Verl and Donald Myers, both of Maxwell, and Max Myers of Parkersburg; one granddaughter, Geraldine Garnett of Denver, Colo.; seven great grandsons and six great granddaughters.
Her memorial service was held October 25 at the Maxwell Christian Church with all four grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, the one remaining sister and brother, Ruth Trunnell of Chariton and Winfield Roush of Tracy, Minn., in attendance. Rev. Sheaffer, her pastor, and Rev. O. E. Barrow, a former pastor, conducted the service.
