Life Story of Elsmer Walker
Funeral services for Elsmer “Kelse” Walker, 72, of Prairie City were held Saturday at the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, south of Prairie City.
The Rev. Oren Reger, pastor of the church, and Elder Arthur Nichols of Knoxville conducted services. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Survivors are his wife, Leo; two sons, Duane Walker of Reasnor and Herbert “Bud” Walker of Prairie City; two daughters, Mrs. Albert (Coleen) Keuning of Prairie City and Mrs. Robert (Shirley) Hart of Newton; 14 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, Glen Walker of Altoona and Hubert Walker of Des Moines; and four sisters, Mrs. Wilfred (Juanita) Shoemake and Mrs. Lewis (Grace) Dammeier, both of Newton, Mrs. Maurice (Aletha) Woody of Newton and Mrs. Leonard (Elvertta) Prindle of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Mr. Walker, a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, was manager of the Percy softball team for many years.
He had farmed and worked for the prairie City Concrete Co.
The son of Murry and Leona Mae Hitchler Walker, he was born July 13, 1905 in Jasper County.
He was married to Leo Wilson Feb. 10, 1925 in Prairie City.
He died Wednesday at his home in Prairie City.
