Services Held
Services for Duane “Tuff” Walker of Reasnor were held Monday, June 4, 2001, at the First Methodist Church in Newton. Rev. Duane Skidmore, pastor of the Reasnor United Methodist Church officiated the services. Burial was in Palo Alto Cemetery.
Duane passed away Thursday, May 31, 2001, at Mercy Medical Center of heart failure at the age of 71.
The son of Elsmer “Kelse” Walker and Leo Wilson, Duane was born May 15, 1930 in rural Prairie City. He graduated from the Prairie City High School in the class of 1948. On August 31, 1956, he married Marilyn J. Schultz in Reasnor.
Mr. Walker worked on the Maytag Assembly Line and retired January 1989 after 35 years. He belonged to the Reasnor United Methodist Church, Des Moines Softball Hall of Fame, Monroe American Legion, and Iowa Softball Hall of Fame. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict. He also was a past Mayor of Reasnor and Councilman. He managed the Reasnor Softball team.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Walker of Reasnor; one son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Janice Walker of Altoona; two daughters and their husbands, Janna (Mrs. Doug) Klein of Monroe and Connie (Mrs. Jary) Hoskey of LeGrand; 7 granddaughters; 3 great grandchildren. He also leaves one brother, Herbert “Buck” Walker of Prairie City; and two sisters, Coleen Keuning of Prairie City and Shirley Funk of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Regina.
Memorials in Duane’s name or the Reasnor United Methodist Church have been suggested by the family.
